Bottle Filling Line Equipment List & Pack-Rate Calculator
An equipment list becomes useful when it defines functions, rates and responsibilities. Use the matrix and calculator to expose missing interfaces before comparing quotations.
Use a boundary matrix, not just machine names
| Stage | Typical functions to allocate | Often missed |
|---|---|---|
| Product supply | Tank, mixing or treatment, feed pump and piping as required | Tank level, temperature control and cleaning boundary |
| Empty container supply | Manual loading, unscrambling, blowing or depalletizing | Bottle condition, transfer height and buffer |
| Filling | Dosing, nozzles, indexing and product contact path | Actual dose range, slowest SKU and cleanout |
| Closure | Feeding, application, tamper features and any sealing | Format tooling, liner compatibility and reject checks |
| Inspection and marking | Fill or weight checks, closure checks, coding and labels | Reject confirmation, code location and data ownership |
| Secondary packaging | Grouping, shrink, tray or carton packing | Consumable specification, pack pattern and change parts |
| Dispatch | Pallet handling and any palletizing | Finished pallet pattern, transfer route and warehouse boundary |
| Line integration | Conveyors, accumulation, signals, guarding and documentation | One named owner for the integrated result |
Convert a bottle rate into downstream pack rates
Worked example: 6,000 bottles per hour
At 12 bottles per case, 6,000 bottles per hour equals 500 cases per hour, or 8.33 cases per minute. With 80 cases per pallet, the average flow is 6.25 pallets per hour. A 30-second interruption at 100 bottles per minute corresponds to 50 bottles of accumulation if upstream continues running.
Assign every interface to a responsible party
For each transfer, record the container or pack orientation, height, rate, buffer, electrical signals and response to blocked or starved conditions. Identify who supplies and commissions the connection. Include utilities at named connection points and define where the buyer’s piping, cabling, drainage and civil work begin.
A faster filler may increase accumulation while the packer remains the bottleneck. Review both normal running and recovery after an interruption. The line should reach a controlled state when caps or labels run out, and the restart should avoid releasing unverified packages.
Quote the same four scope categories
- Included: the item, its supported duty, parts and documents are within the base proposal.
- Optional: the item is separately priced with a clear effect on output or operation.
- Buyer supplied: the buyer has an identified specification and installation responsibility.
- Excluded: the item is outside the proposal and the remaining owner must be resolved.
Use those categories for machinery, conveyors, inspection, change parts, cleaning accessories, installation, training, spares and delivery preparation. Record assumptions in a separate column. An empty cell should be treated as unresolved, not assumed included.
Buyer questions
Does every line need bottle blowing?
No. A line using purchased containers may start at bottle feeding or depalletizing. If blowing is included, preforms, molds, compressed air and container transfer become part of the project.
Is the packer rated in bottles or packs per minute?
Either may appear in a quotation. Convert both to a common rate with the exact pack pattern; a 6-pack and a 12-pack are different duties.
How much conveyor buffer should I buy?
Start with the expected interruption and recovery behavior, then have the supplier design accumulation that suits bottle stability and product handling. A count alone is not a conveyor layout.
