Sauce & Paste Filling Machines: Smooth and Chunky Products
Configure sauce and paste filling around the complete recipe. Smooth paste, an emulsion and a chunky condiment can require different feed, valve and nozzle arrangements even at the same fill size.
Identify the sauce family before choosing the product path
| Recipe | Configuration to evaluate | What the trial must show |
|---|---|---|
| Smooth ketchup or similar paste | Piston or suitable pump with positive cutoff | Complete refill, consistent dose and a clean sealing area |
| Mayonnaise or an emulsified dressing | Low-disturbance feed and dosing suitable for the texture | No unacceptable change in texture or entrained air |
| Chili sauce, relish or a chunky condiment | Hopper, valves and nozzles selected for pieces and fibers | No blockage; acceptable particle distribution and integrity |
| Oil-separating sauce | A permitted mixing/feed method throughout the campaign | Composition remains representative as hopper level changes |
| Thin sauce | Compare gravity, pump or other suitable metering before assuming piston | Quantity and splash/foam control at the required cycle |
A practical filling-cell scope
A sauce cell may combine product supply, controlled filling, container transfer, capping and the required sealing or labeling steps. Start from the operations you need and retain suitable existing equipment.
| Module | Configuration decision |
|---|---|
| Hopper and supply | Level control; agitation only if the product permits it; heating only within the approved process |
| Metering unit | Piston range or pump type, useful dose range, refill time and number of product paths |
| Valve and nozzle | Clear passage, shutoff position, diving motion and cleaning access |
| Jar or bottle handling | Stable support, opening diameter, accurate positioning and format changes |
| Closure | Cap type, feeding, closing method and clean sealing surface |
| Product change | Drain/recovery method, removable parts, seals and cleaning procedure |
Why a smooth-product demonstration is insufficient
A filler that handles a smooth paste may not pass pieces, skins or fibers through the same valve. One large piece in a water-like sample also does not represent a concentrated chunky sauce. Send a sample representative of production, including the difficult end of its normal variation.
Assess filled quantity and product distribution separately. Correct total mass can coexist with an unacceptable ratio of liquid to pieces. Compare the product before and after filling and across the beginning, middle and end of the agreed trial.
Four trial conditions worth agreeing
| Condition | Record together |
|---|---|
| Smallest and largest required dose | Individual fill results, complete cycle and the configuration used |
| Slowest normal product condition | Product temperature, feed behavior, refill and cutoff |
| Representative particle content | Blockages, texture change, product distribution and quantity |
| Pause, restart and product change | First acceptable pack, residue, cleanup time and recipe settings |
Write the acceptance limits and sample plan before testing. A demonstration video can show motion; it cannot replace the individual results needed to assess a tolerance. The RFQ and blank trial templates provide a record structure.
Buyer questions
Is every sauce a piston-filling application?
No. Product flow, texture, particles, dose range and cleaning decide the shortlist. Smooth thin sauces may justify another method; some viscous or particulate products suit a compatible pump system.
Should every sauce hopper have heating and agitation?
No. Both are conditional options. The formulation and approved process determine whether heating or mixing is permitted and what operating range is acceptable.
Can one configuration fill both a squeeze bottle and a glass jar?
Sometimes, with suitable guides, supports, nozzle access and closure equipment. Obtain a format-by-format parts list and demonstrate both packages.
